Uzamış stiloid proçes ile tonsillektomi ilişkisinin incelenmesi: Vaka Kontrol Çalışması

YÖNTEM ve GEREÇLER: İlk muayene amacı ile kliniğimize başvuran hastalar üzerinde gerçekleştirilen çalışmada, vaka grubunu 5 yıl ve daha fazla süre önce tonsillektomi operasyonu geçirdiğini belirten hastalar oluşturmuştur. Kontrol grubu tonsillektomi öyküsü olmayan bireylerden, vaka grubunun yaş ve cinsiyetleri göz önüne alınarak eşleştirme tekniği ile oluşturulmuştur. 24 vaka ve 24 kontrol olmak üzere 48 hasta uzamış SP açısından incelemeye alınmıştır. Ölçümlerde hastaların panoramik radyografileri kullanılmıştır. 30 mm üzeri ölçümlerde SP, uzamış kabul edilmiştir.
BULGULAR: Sağ ve sol SP uzunlukları vaka ve kontrol grubu arasında istatistiksel açıdan anlamlı ilişki göstermemiştir (p>0.05). Bununla birlikte sağ ve sol tarafta vaka grubunda SP uzunlukları daha fazladır. Sağ ve sol taraf ayrı ayrı incelendiğinde, sağ SP’nin uzamış olma durumu vaka ve kontrol grubu arasında anlamlı fark gösterirken (p<0.05), sol SP göstermemiştir (p>0.05). Yaş ve cinsiyet parametreleri ile SP uzamışlıkları arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı ilişki görülmemiştir (p>0.05).
TARTIŞMA ve SONUÇ: Tonsillektomi operasyonu boyun bölgesinde cerrahi bir travma oluşturması sebebiyle reaktif olarak SP uzamasında rol sahibi olabilir. Daha büyük çalışma grupları, bu sonucun doğrulanmasında faydalı olacaktır.
Investigation of the relationship between elongated styloid process and tonsillectomy: A Case Control Study

METHODS: The study performed on patients who applied to our clinic for initial examination. The case group consisted of patients who underwent tonsillectomy operation 5 or more years ago. The control group was formed by matching technique, taking into account the age and sex of the case group, from individuals without tonsillectomy. 48 patients, 24 cases and 24 controls, were examined for elongated SP. Panoramic radiographs of the patients were used in the measurements. SP measurements over 30 mm were considered to be elongated.
RESULTS: Left and right SP length did not show statistically significant relationship between case and control group (p>0.05). However, SP length is higher in the case group on the right and left side. When the right and left sides were examined separately, there was a statistically significant difference between the case and control group on the right SP elongation (p<0.05) while the left SP elongation did not show significant difference between case and control group (p>0.05). It was found that age and gender parameters did not effect on SP elongation (p>0.05).
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Tonsillectomy operation may have a role in SP elongation as a reactive cause of surgical trauma in neck region. Larger study groups will be useful for verification of these results.
