Kamuflaj ve ortognatik cerrahi ile tedavi edilen sýnýr sýnýf ýýý vakalarda çekicilik algýsýnýn ortodontistler, oral cerrahlar ve meslekten olmayan bireyler arasýnda karþýlaþtýrýlmasý

GÝRÝÞ ve AMAÇ: Bu çalýþmanýn amacý, ortodontik kamuflaj ve ortognatik cerrahiyle tedavi edilmiþ benzer iskeletsel anomaliye sahip hastalarýn yumuþak doku profillerinin, ortodontistler, oral cerrahlar ve meslekten olmayan bireyler tarafýndan deðerlendirilmesi ve estetik algý farklýlýklarýnýn incelenmesidir.
YÖNTEM ve GEREÇLER: Bu çalýþmada iskeletsel Sýnýf III maloklüzyona sahip, ortodontik kamuflaj (9 kadýn hasta) ve ortognatik cerrahi (9 kadýn hasta) ile tedavi edilmiþ hastalarýn Adobe Photoshop programý kullanýlarak karartýlmýþ profil siluetleri kullanýlmýþtýr. 75 ortodontist, 47 cerrah ve 219 meslekten olmayan birey olmak üzere toplamda 341 kiþiden oluþan katýlýmcýlar oluþturulan siluetleri 1 ile 10 arasýnda ayarlanmýþ bir VAS skalasý kullanarak deðerlendirmiþtir. Ayrýca katýlýmcýlardan tüm görseller arasýndan en itici ve en çekici profilleri seçmeleri istenmiþtir.
BULGULAR: Her bir grup kamuflaj hastalarýný ortognatik cerrahi hastalarýndan daha düþük skorlamýþtýr. Bununla birlikte meslekten olmayan bireyler profilleri klinisyenlere göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlý olacak þekilde daha az çekici bulmuþlardýr (p<0.05). Tüm katýlýmcýlarýn en itici olarak deðerlendirdikleri profil kamuflaj hastalarýndan belirgin çene ucu protrüzyonunun olduðu profiller olurken, en çekici bulunan profil için de tüm gruplar benzer seçimler yapmýþlardýr.
TARTIÞMA ve SONUÇ: Tüm gruplar ortognatik cerrahi geçirmiþ hastalarýn yumuþak doku profil siluetlerini, kamuflaj tedavisine kýyasla daha çekici olarak algýlanýrken, meslekten olmayan bireyler hem kamuflaj hem de cerrahi hastalarýna ait profilleri klinisyenlere kýyasla anlamlý þekilde daha az çekici bulmuþlardýr.

Comparison of perception of attractiveness in borderline class ýýý cases treated with camouflage and orthognathic surgery among orthodontists, oral surgeons, and lay people

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study is to evaluate the perception of attractiveness of the soft tissue profiles of patients with similar skeletal anomalies treated with orthodontic camouflage and orthognathic surgery by orthodontists, surgeons and lay people.
METHODS: In this study, black soft tissue profile silhouettes of patients with skeletal Class III malocclusion treated with orthodontic camouflage and orthognathic surgery were used. Participants were composed of 341 participants, 75 orthodontists, 47 surgeons and 44 laypeople and they rated the dark profile silhouettes using a VAS scale of 1 to 10. The participants were asked to choose the most and less attractive profiles among all the visuals.
RESULTS: All groups rated the profile attractiveness of camouflage patients lower than the orthognathic surgery patients. However, laypersons scored the profiles statistically significantly lower than clinicians (p<0.05). While the profiles with prominent chin in the camouflage patients were ranked as least attractive. A profile in the orthognathic surgery group was ranked as most attractive by the clinicians, while the profiles that were found most attractive for all groups were similar.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: All groups perceived the soft tissue profile silhouettes of the patients who had undergone orthognathic surgery to be more attractive compared to camouflage treatment, while lay people found the profiles of both camouflage and surgical patients significantly less attractive compared to clinicians.
