Diþ hekimliði öðrencilerinin rubber-dam kullanýmýna bakýþ açýsý ve Covid-19 pandemisinin etkisi: Anket çalýþmasý

GÝRÝÞ ve AMAÇ: Bu çalýþmanýn amacý diþ hekimliði fakültesi öðrencilerinin rubber-dam kullanýmýna bakýþ açýsýný tespit etmek, tercih etme veya etmeme sebeplerini ve COVID-19 pandemisinin etkisini araþtýrmaktýr.
YÖNTEM ve GEREÇLER: Türkiye’nin çeþitli þehirlerindeki 944 diþ hekimliði fakültesi dördüncü ve beþinci sýnýf öðrencisine e-posta ve internet aracýlýðýyla 22 sorudan oluþan anket gönderildi. Çalýþmaya yalnýzca anketi tamamlayan katýlýmcýlar dahil edildi. Açýklayýcý istatistiklere ek olarak yöntemlerin karþýlaþtýrýlmasýnda ki-kare testi kullanýldý. Sonuçlar anlamlýlýk düzeyinde deðerlendirildi (𝑃 <0.05).
BULGULAR: 370’i (%67,9) kadýn, 175’i (%32,1) erkek olmak üzere 545 öðrenci anketi tamamladý. Katýlýmcýlarýn %25,1’i daha önce hiç rubber-dam kullanmamýþ ve %41,8’i rubber-dam kullanýmýyla ilgili tatmin edici bir eðitim almadýðýný belirtmiþtir. Endodontik tedavi yaptýðý her hastada rubber-dam kullanan katýlýmcý oraný ise %34.5’tir. Katýlýmcýlarýn %87’si rubber-damýn kök kanallarýna eriþimi kolaylaþtýrdýðýný, ancak %88,8’i rubber-damýn radyograf alma prosedürünü zorlaþtýrdýðýný belirtmektedir. Öðrencilerin %69,2’si rubber-damýn bulaþ riskini azaltabileceðini düþünmüþ ve %68,6’sýnda rubber-dam kullanma isteðinde artýþ olmuþtur.
TARTIÞMA ve SONUÇ: Öðrencilerin rubber-dam kullanýmýna karþý güncel bakýþ açýlarýný tespit etmek, eðitim içeriðine yön vermede faydalý olabilir. COVID-19 pandemisi gibi diðer tüm bulaþýcý hastalýklarla mücadelede öðrencilerin rubber-dam bilgisinin ve yetkinliðinin artýrýlmasý önem taþýmaktadýr.

Dental students’ attitude towards using rubber-dam and the impact of Covid-19: A web based survey

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to determine the point of view of dentistry faculty students, the reasons for their preference or not, and the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on their attitudes about rubber-dam.
METHODS: A web-based questionnaire was asked to 944 people via e-mail and internet, and 22 questions were asked to the fourth and fifth grade students of the faculty of dentistry who are studying in various cities of Turkey. Only participants who completed the questionnaire were included in the study. In addition to descriptive statistics, the chi-square test was used to compare methods. The results were evaluated at the level of significance (𝑃 <0.05).
RESULTS: 545 students, 370 (67.9%) female and 175 (32.1%) male, completed the questionnaire. 25.1% of the participants stated that they had never used a rubber-dam before and 41.8% stated that they did not receive a satisfactory training on the use of rubber-dam. The rate of participants using a rubber dam in each patient undergoing endodontic treatment is 34.5%. 87% of the participants stated that the rubber-dam facilitates access to the root canals, but 88.8% stated that the rubber-dam complicates the radiographing procedure. 69.2% of the students thought that rubber-dam could reduce the risk of contamination, and 68.6% of them had an increased desire to use a rubber- dam.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Identifying students' current perspectives on the use of rubber-dam may be helpful in guiding the educational content. It is important to increase the rubber- dam knowledge and competence of students in the fight against all other infectious diseases such as the COVID- 19 pandemic.
