ICON Skorunun Agız İçi Fotograflar, Dijital Taramalar ve Çalışmacı Deneyimine Göre Etkilerinin İncelenmesi

GİRİŞ ve AMAÇ: Bu çalışmanın amacı, ortodonti tedavi ihtiyaçlarının ve sonuçlarının belirlenmesinde kullanılan ICON indeksinin, ağız içi fotoğraflar ile dijital taramalar arasındaki değerlendirme farklılıklarını incelemek ve çalışmacı deneyiminin bu skorlar üzerindeki etkisini değerlendirmektir.
YÖNTEM ve GEREÇLER: Çalışma, 50 hastadan elde edilen veriler üzerinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Hem 5. sınıf diş hekimliği öğrencisi hem doktora öğrencisi hem de meslekte 40. yılını aşmış ortodonti profesörü, hastaların ağız içi fotoğraflarını ve dijital taramalarını ICON indeksi protokolüne göre değerlendirmiştir. İki farklı yöntemle elde edilen veriler karşılaştırılmış ANOVA ve Bağımsız T Testi ile karşılaştırılarak, p<0,05 anlamlı kabul edilmiştir.
BULGULAR: Her üç değerlendirici grubu arasında yapılan karşılaştırmalar sonucunda anlamlı fark olmadığı, ölçülen değerlerin benzer olduğu görülmüştür(p>0.05). Değerlendirici gruplar arasında değerlendirilen yönteme bağlı olarak yapılan ikili karşılaştırmalar sonucunda anlamlı fark olmadığı, ölçülen değerlerin benzer olduğu görülmüştür (p>0.05).
TARTIŞMA ve SONUÇ: ICON indeks ölçümünde her iki yöntem de güvenilir sonuçlar vermektedir. Tecrübenin anlamlı bir fark göstermemesi, genel diş hekimlerinin de rahatlıkla hastanın ICON skorunu hesaplayarak ortodonti gereksinimini belirleyip ortodontiste yönlendirme yapabileceğini göstermektedir.
Examination of the Effects of Icon Score Based on Intraoral Photographs, Digital Scans, and Practitioner Experience

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study is to examine the differences in assessment between intraoral photographs and digital scans using the ICON index, which is used to determine orthodontic treatment needs and outcomes, and to evaluate the impact of practitioner experience on these scores.
METHODS: This study was conducted using data obtained from 50 patients. The oral photographs and digital scans of the patients were evaluated by three different groups: a 5th-year dental student, a PhD student, and an orthodontic professor with over 40 years of professional experience, following the ICON index protocol. The data obtained through two different methods were compared using ANOVA and Independent T-test, with p<0.05 considered statistically significant.
RESULTS: A good level of agreement was found among observers in terms of measurements from photographs and scans (ICC: 0.803; ICC: 0.818, respectively). A positive correlation was identified in the PhD student's photographic measurements between aesthetics, arch crowding, and crossbite. In contrast, the dentistry student's measurements showed a positive correlation between arch crowding and the buccal region. In the PhD student's scan measurements, a positive correlation was found between crossbite and aesthetics as well as arch crowding, while the dentistry student exhibited a positive correlation between arch crowding, aesthetics, and crossbite.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Comparisons between the three evaluator groups revealed no significant differences, indicating that the measured values were similar (p>0.05). Additionally, pairwise comparisons based on the evaluation method showed no significant differences, and the measured values were found to be comparable (p>0.05).
