Oküler protezlerde iris renginin oluþturulmasinda kullanilan yöntemlerin subjektif olarak deðerlendirilmesi

GÝRÝÞ ve AMAÇ: Göz küresi kaybýný restore eden oküler protezler, hastanýn fiziksel ve psikolojik saðlýðýnýn devam ettirilmesi ve sosyal uyumu için önemlidir. Saðlýklý gözün iris rengine benzer renkte iris oluþturularak hazýrlanan estetik bir protez gözünü kaybetmiþ olan hastanýn toplumda kabul edilirliðini artýrýr. Bu çalýþmada, iris renklendirilmesinde kullanýlan dijital görüntüleme ve boyama yöntemleri 3 gözlemci tarafýndan subjektif olarak karþýlaþtýrýlmýþtýr.
YÖNTEM ve GEREÇLER: Oküler protez yapýmý için Ege Üniversitesi Diþhekimliði Fakültesi’ne baþvuran 36 hastaya etik kurul onayý alýndýktan sonra ikiþer adet oküler protez yapýldý. Ýrisleri renklendirmek için boyama ve dijital yöntemler kullanýldý. Boyama yönteminde zemin olarak 26 hastada resim kaðýdý, 10 hastada ise asetat kaðýdý kullanýldý. Protetik iþlemler tamamlandýktan sonra renk karþýlaþtýrýlmasý için subjektif deðerlendirilmeler yapýldý. Subjektif deðerlendirmede, görsel renk deðerlendirme cetveli kullanýldý. Oküler protezler, 3 gözlemci tarafýndan birbirinden baðýmsýz olarak, doðal göze yakýnlýk durumu açýsýndan deðerlendirildi. Elde edilen veriler SPSS 10.0 for Windows (1999 SPPS Inc., USA) (Statistical Package of Social Sciences) istatistik programýnda incelenmiþtir.
BULGULAR: Gözlemcilerin boyama yönteminde kullanýlan asetat ve resim kaðýdý kullanýlarak hazýrlanan oküler protezleri için elde edilen verilere göre farklarýn istatistiksel olarak anlamlý olduðu gözlendi. (p<0.05)
TARTIÞMA ve SONUÇ: Gözlemci gruplarýndan elde edilen verilere göre, boyama yönteminin saðlýklý irisi taklit etmede dijital görüntülemeden daha iyi bir yöntem olduðu saptanmýþtýr. Kesin yargýlar için daha çok sayýda hasta ve uzun dönem klinik takip gerekmektedir.

The subjective evaluation of the methods used in the formation of iris color in ocular prostheses

INTRODUCTION: Prostheses, restoring the ocular loss of patients are vitally important for the physical and psychological health management of the patient. An esthetic ocular prosthesis carrying an iris similar to the contralateral eye of the patient increases the patient’s tolerance to the prosthesis and society’s tolerance to the patient. In the present in vivo study, digital imaging and manuel painting methods used in iris coloration process are assessed by 3 observers.
METHODS: 36 patients were referred to the Department of Prosthodontics, Ege University School of Dentistry with a loss of eye. The study was performed in accordance with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki. Each of them was made two different ocular prosthesis. In the iris coloring process, painting and digital methods were used. In the painting methods, for the 26 patient, painting paper was used as the base paper and acetate paper was used in the remaining 10 patient. Subjective assessments were conducted for color comparison after prosthetic procedures were completed. In the subjective assessment, a visual color evaluation scale was used. Ocular prostheses were evaluated in regards to their similarity to the natural eye randomly by 3 observers. Data were analyzed through SPSS 10.0 for Windows (1999 SPPS Inc., USA) (Statistical Package of Social Sciences).
RESULTS: The difference between the painting methods using painting paper and acetate were observed to be statistically significant according to the observers. (p<0.05)
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: In this subjective evaluation, manuel painting technique was found to be a better method than digital imaging for the simulation of the healthy iris. More patients and long-term clinical follow-up are needed for definitive judgments.
